I got my lasso, my saddle, my horse… Oh, nevermind. That’s for the movies—Underwear? Check. Socks? Check. Jeans, shorts and shirts? Check. Bath and toiletries? Check. Wallet? Check. iPod? Check. Camera? Check. Suki fed? Check. Sleepingbag and tent? Check. Cigarettes? Check. I think I am ready. Wait… Leave any and all thoughts about work at the door? Check. Alright, now I am ready. W00t! I’ll be back in a week with pictures to post. See you then!

Come this Tuesday, I will be up at the break of dawn finishing up some last minute packing, then on to drowning myself in a must-needed cup of coffee and finally afterward, hitting the road towards fresh, clean air, the rawness of nature, and complete immunity to any and all forms of responsibility. But, before I go on this trip, or any trip for that matter, I like to take care of a few things—sort of leave on a clean slate.
To get me prepared, I took advantage of my first two days of vacation by getting a haircut, sorting out the mail (in fact, my mailbox was quite full since I haven’t bothered to go down and clear it out in almost a week and a half,) getting my car serviced and washed, forcing myself to get an eye examination, one that had been long overdue (perfect vision, by the way,) paying my upcoming bills ahead of time and finally, cleaning my apartment (with Robbie’s help) after a few months of it being in disarray. I spent the majority of my day today with him and Vivien, traveling around town from one store to another. After making a list, we decided that shopping for most of our needs here will be much more convenient as well as save us time and a lot of money from buying everything at the shops we most likely will not be familiar with up in Garberville. After acquiring everything that we needed, we went ahead and packed our tents, sleeping bags, non-perishable foods, coolers and other miscellaneous needs into Robbie’s Element so that we had everything organized and ready to go. The day was long and somewhat exhausting, but it was fun and it is nice to have that part of our preparation done and over with. Final items on my to-do list for tomorrow include paying my rent, packing my clothes and dropping my keys off to Joe so that he can feed Suki while I am away. After that, I will be able to relax before finally heading out the following morning. At the end of it all, I know I will look forward to coming back home. But for right now, my heart is set on not seeing this place, this city and all the people whom inhabit it for a really long time.
